Jury Duty

Wednesday - Had to get up at the same time as Ken, since there were signs put up all along our block prohibiting parking for the day. Nearest available, non-prohibited parking was just over a block and a half away. Not a long distance by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems much longer at 6:30 with a wonky ankle. Despite having not slept well, I opted to stay awake. Filled my day with laundry, studying, and My Heroes Ability. By the time all the laundry was done, my ankle was screaming again. I sat down for a little while before Ken came home, and I asked him if he would take me down to my Jury Service for Cal Western. Got there a bit early, and chatted with a gent named Mike, who is originally from Jersey, and came out specifically for school/the weather. The trial went well. I didn't take as extensive notes as the most extensive note takers, or give as extensive feedback, but the note takes were both going into their 3rd year, and knew what the "lawyers" were looking to be critiqued on. I certainly said a great deal more than anyone except them, and I think I brought a little realism to the folks involved (find the line between humanizing the victim and schmaltz, don't cut off a witness, it makes it look like you're hiding something, etc.) They kept talking about how late it was, but I had it in my calendar as 5-9, and the lady I talked to said it MIGHT get out at 8:30, so I was amazed when they let us go a little after 7. I talked with one of the note-takers while I waited for Ken, and got some advice on instructors. I love networking! Back at home, he finished watching "21" at Justin's. I'm trying to make him more analytical (it was a good movie. Why? It was just good.), but it's like pulling teeth. Anyway, we sat and watched PMFR. Roommate Anthony joined us, and he and I chatted during the show. I think Ken might have been annoyed by this...I can't imagine it's due to us talking over the show, since he used to do just that when there are large groups of people watching, or it might have been that he resented the intrusion by Anthony...who knows? I hadn't eaten, so I had the last of my tofu, and the last of my veggies, but was still hungry. Took a chance and made some of the quinoa that's been sitting in the cupboard on the stovetop. I've tried to make it before, using the microwave, but that didn't work so well. Stove top ruled! It was exactly what I was craving. Huzzah! I was a little sad that Emily went home - I wanted to see more of her, based on her personality, but them's is the breaks. I was also disappointed that the tree-planter girl didn't win. I usually like the vintage girls stuff, and absolutely adore her personal style, but I hated her dress, loved tree-planter, and it would've been a nice thing for her, having been in the bottom 2 last time. Then again, maybe having been in the bottom 2 is why she didn't win this time.
As tired as I was, I laid in bed for a good hour, tossing turning, looking at the ceiling. Same old, same old stuff running through my mind.
