So today is the first anniversary of the day that two gay teens were executed in Iran. I'm glad I found the above article, as it talks about what can be done. For those interested, there is a rally/vigil today at 4pm at the U.S. Federal Building. I may or may not go, as I am scheduled to work until 4.

I'm not really sure what it is that separates these two young men from the other 4,000 that have been executed for homosexuality since 1979 (age?), but it seems to have brought the issue to our attention, so that's good.

It's kind of an awkward time the world over, and it amazes me the vast difference, from country to country, of what we're fighting for. Here, of course, it's to be able to serve in the military, marry, adopt, etc., while in other places, it's to not be hunted and killed, and everything in between. http://www.hrw.org/doc/?t=lgbt for more info on that.

I feel like if I could just sit down and talk with these people, they could cease their rabid hatred of gays, and I could cease my rabid hatred of them. It would really work out well for all involved parties. I do, however, wonder if a number of these officials really have nothing at all against gays, and just see the issue as a tool for political gain.

Reading the Human Rights Watch home page news items, one gets the idea that other countries are mischevious children, who are constantly trying to pull a fast one on the world at large. "Torturing dissenters? Who's torturing dissenters? Not us!", or somesuch, with all their secret trials, and asking for expatriates/asylum-seekers to be returned.

I'd really like someone else to start something like the Peace Corps, but for LGBT causes, where we go to other countries, and educate them on issues of homosexuality. We're not pedophiles, AIDS was not handed down from the gods to punish us, gay people are not inherently unhappy, etc. etc. I find it absurd that these things still need to be said in other parts of the world, but I guess not, since there are people here who believe the same thing. The trick, of course, would be to be able to do that and not be killed. I would make a great second-in-command for such an organization, if anybody out there was looking to start one up.

Now THAT'S a worthy cause.

Thank you for posting this. It is sad and often times things like this somehow slip past the bigger news outlets (where, I admit, I get most of my information).

I wonder, though, if rabid hatred is curable? I gather that in your case your rabid hatred of them is strictly contingent on their rabid hatred of you. Then again, you aren't off hunting these people down and killing them (in spite of what you might like to be doing :).
