Hi, I'm in Dallas.

The city, not the friend.

Crazy day at work on Monday, as you might imagine. Ken's work called him and told him not to come in. I thought about staying home, but had such a restful weekend, I didn't see much point. Some people didn't show, because they were being evacuated, other people had to leave early during the day while their houses were added to the list. When they closed the 56 (exit just north of my work), there started being buzz of closing our building and sending volunteer associates and their families out to Dallas. Figuring that this was just crisis-time crazy-talk, I went ahead and raised my hand. There was some talk of incentives, though nothing specific, other than Eternal Gratitude from management, and the opportunity to work OT. As a temp, the choice was really work OT/don't get paid at all, for me, so that made it even easier. Ken had to stay and work his job, but encouraged me to go, and I thought "Subject Line". As it turned out, that was for the best, since when the company said "You and your family" they really meant "You, but if you try to bring your family, you're not going". Two of the other girls in the office had that happen.

Also on Monday, they bought everyone pizza (BBQ Chicken, Sausage, or Pepperoni - something for everyone!), and we were supposedly encouraged to work all the OT we wanted, but after only an hour over, they sent me home. Whatev. I did manage to make a delicious/disgusting creation with tortilla chips, salsa, and Papa John's Garlic Sauce (basically fake melted garlic butter). It tasted good, but was nowhere near good for me, and did a number on my tummy. Ken was at Justin's watching TV when I got home, but I basically just stopped by there to say hello. My "just stopping by" was encouraged by the start of "The Man" on TV. I've been eating a lot lately, and gaining rather large quantities of weight. Naturally, my solution to this was to eat more when I got home. I had a lettuce sammich, a bagel with broth, and some TVP. Ken came home, eventually, and took a nap. I was going to lay down with him, but didn't want to sleep, and figured he'd appreciate me getting some treasure for our Sorceress in D2 more anyway. Eventually, he woke up, watched TV in the living room, and then made plans to see a movie with Dallas (the friend, not the city). Somewhat unusually for me, I finally managed to stop eating when he left - I usually have the hardest time not eating when I'm by myself. I did pour a couple of drinks, and got a little sad. Not for the reason I've been sad, though - just sad because of the weight I've been gaining.

Standing there in the kitchen, with his fat, sad, drunken, shirtless boyfriend nuzzled into his chest, Ken just laughed when I told him this, and told me what I already knew. I've been taking a break, and if I'm not happy on break anymore, then it's time to get back on track. We had Goodbye Sex, and then I went to sleep burrowed underneath him.

Tuesday morning, Ken took me to the airport, and I tried as best I could to sleep on the plane, with mixed success. There was a lot of confusion once we got to Dallas, and a lot of getting lost and mixed exits and the like. Finally found the hotel, set our stuff down, and went to lunch at a place called Brio. The company is going to reimburse us for our meals and the like out here, so I went ahead and had a cocktail with my overpriced pasta. There was some talk of getting together later with the folks from the other hotel (neither hotel had room for everyone), so we decided to kill time by walking around the mall. We stopped in at Barnes & Noble, and I'm not really sure what happened, but I ended up being abandonded... why does that always happen? Not terribly concerned about this, I went back to the hotel, checked to see if any messages had been left, and took myself to dinner at Cheesecake Factory. Mmmmm....Long Island Iced Tea. I had that and an appetizer, but opted against a full additional meal and additional drink, in favor of the signature drink at the hotel restaurant, Copeland's. Called a "Crash & Burn", it was supposed to be shared by two people, so I figured it would have enough liqour to help me sleep, but ended up being mostly sugar. I got the glass to take home, at any rate, which was really the point.

Didn't sleep well at all - woke up 3 times thoroughout the night, and when my alarm finally went off at 5:30, I was eager to get out of bed. Waited over an hour for our ride (he got lost again), and then went into work. I was in a very industrious mood, so I got a lot done, and only started to slow down after hour 11, when everyone else had long since tapped out. There was some mention of going downtown to party, but my contingent was very tired, so we had dinner at Cheesecake Factory near the hotel instead. Dinner was good, though I ate too much, of course. I had been going to go to the local ice cream place, and get some banana sorbet, or mabye back to Copeland's, to try the other signature drink, the Beach Bum, but ended up just going back up to my room. I'm ready to go home now.
