My day slipped mostly past me, but I ran the errands I had to run; dropped off money at the bank, paid my rent, got in a (very) fast workout before running home to meet Marie. She had been blatantly describing dropping subtle hints about some changes in her life, but I'm a little slow sometimes, so she finally just came out and said it while I was getting dressed. Big stuff happens.
The Happy Hour was lovely - a friend of Marie's from France lives in Banker's Hill, and the apt complex has a gorgeous rooftop available to all the tenants. I met a very cute med student from Cork. He kept making eyes at me during the conversation, maybe as if to say "if you play your cards right, I'm maybe not as straight as I seem." Maybe it's a fear of being wrong or failure or something, but I don't play cards. Haven't since high school, when every hand was wrong.

Time was flying by, so we hightailed it up to La Jolla for the Encore Vocal Ensemble presentation. The show wasn't terribly well organized; they were sharing the venue with another show, the guys outside were no help, and the people inside just made vague pointing motions for where to go or what to do. It was nice to chat with the Rocky crowd before-hand. I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, really, and at the amount of empathy they had for me failing the Bar. No "what you should have done..." no disappointed sighs, just hugs, and a couple "that sucks."

The show itself was okay. Like most Encore shows, it suffered from a lack of cohesion. The songs were only sort of related to the plot, and even the good singers were by and large poor performers. Naturally, the standout exceptions were Amy B, FHA, and Stevin, so I watched them for most of the show. The second half was largely better, due in no small part to FHA's solo: "I Believe" from Book of Mormon. Not only was this the first song from that show that I've liked, but FHA's whole performance was the best I've ever heard from him. I felt a little bad for the rest of the company, really, because the difference between him and them was that noticeable. We stayed and said hi to FHA, Stevin, and my former law professor Rob DeKoven (who is also Stevin's ex from many years ago, and Ken's ex from not-quite-so-many years ago), then Marie dropped me off at home.

FHA had some cake at Brian's before coming over and pre-drinking at my place. If I hadn't promised Big Tom that I was going, I would have just suggested we stay in and gab all night. The Bear Night itself was fun; a bit packed on the dance floor, and a bit empty outside, but I did get to reconnect with a number of my friends I hadn't seen in a while. Shelton, Tony, Jake, Paul & Tim. Ultimately, the night wasn't all that amazing, though, so we left at 1:40. I dropped Anthony off at home, then kept drinking at my place.

Realistically, I didn't want to be alone, but I've also never just wanted "someone," or even been one to ask people over. I did text Jake that it was nice to see him, and messaged Stevin something similar, but ultimately just went to bed.
