Scott texted me in the morning, but I was slow getting up. Eventually, we went to Brian's Eatery so he could have breakfast. We rolled around on my bed for a few hours after, though neither of us was ready to bottom. He left with a couple hours still to go before his flight, I went to the gym.

When I got back, I remembered that tonight was the Nikka Costa concert. Texted First Husband Anthony to see if he was going, figuring we could carpool. FHA introduced me to Nikka Costa, and tickets were only $15, so I thought this would be less "see if he was going" than "introduction to offering to drive." To my astonishment, he said no, he had to save money. $15. Nikka Costa. Nah, gonna save money. Even though I've vowed to myself not to bend over backwards to bend over backwards to get people to let me help them, I thought about this for about as long as it took me to whip my credit card out and buy another ticket.

I figured a $15 ticket would be open seating, and I wasn't really sure about traffic or parking, so we ended up being very very early. It was nice to have some time to catch up with FHA. People kept walking past us to get in, only to be ushered back out. I wondered if they just didn't notice the people already waiting in front of the door, thought we were maybe waiting for a different show, or thought they were special.

Doors finally opened, and I made a beeline for the front of the theatre. Front row center. Fuck yes. Tori Roze and the Hot Mess opened. I like her voice, and LOVE her energy...the music is just okay for me, though. It's kinda jazzy, in that they don't always feel the need to have a melody. After their set, Nikka Costa's band came on to do their soundcheck...man, if only there had been any other time they could have done that, like during the whole day that the theatre was empty. Alas.

Nikka finally came on and fucking destroyed the place. Insisted that everyone get up and dance, was very real about people filming - "I don't care if you do, but live music is about an exchange of energy, so consider putting your phone down and being present with us." The drunk people were a little annoying. I bet if they hadn't taken that break to do a soundcheck, people would have drank less. She never played "Around the World," which is unfortunate, but I understand why she didn't. She played a lot of really great songs, and I might need to make a mix CD for her sometime soon. Or more accurately, make a list and have FHA make it. :-D

Leaving the theatre, FHA said those three little words every boy loves to hear. "You were right."
