So, This Happened
Mar. 1st, 2012 08:34 pmI took the Bar exam this week. Initially, it wasn't so bad.
Day 1
Madonna - "Get Together" kicked my morning off. I felt great. First question was Trusts, which I know nothing at all about. Nothing. So I wrote some junk. Second question was Con Law, Freedom of Speech and organizational standing. It was okay. Probably a 65 there. Last was Evidence, and I'm pretty sure I beat the living tar out of it. Had a bunch of supportive texts waiting for me at lunch time, which was nice. PT was completely statutory Professional Responsibility.
Justin Williams had posted a lovely link to my wall from Buzzfeed - 40 Things That Make Corgis Happy.

I meant to study for the MBE when I got home. Not so much, that. I don't even remember what I did, other than make my sammiches and coffee for the next morning. Peter texted me. He's pretty sure he has herpes. He's only had sex with me and one other person. Tim came by later, bitched because I didn't pay enough attention to a poem he wrote, scoffed at the idea that we "only" need a 65 to pass each essay, then derided every picture of a corgi on the Buzzfeed page, and all to help distract me from the Bar. What the fuck.
Day 2
MBE. Initially, I had no clue what I was doing. I'm always crazy-fast on multiple choice, though. Either I know the law or I don't. Since I had another hour at the end of the session, I went back over the questions. Felt MUCH better about my answers on a second read-through. Changed two of them, then left. Afternoon was similar, except even on a second read-through I didn't feel great. I imagine that's pretty common.
I fucked around for a little while online, then finally jacked off and reviewed Corporations. Tim texted me asking if he could come by, but it was already past 10 and I had more reviewing to do. I am unable to set or keep boundaries though, so I still said yes, and just warned that I was getting ready for bed. He opted not to come by.
Day 3
First question was Contracts...or Remedies...or Agency...or Corporations. I'm still not sure, but I sure did write a lot for it. Second questions was PR AGAIN. Sneaky fucking Bar Exam. Third question was Real Property, but just LL/T, and I beat that one up, too. Started feeling a little tired at the lunch break, but pushed it to the back of my head. Opened up the afternoon exam and got dizzy. Really, my vision blurred and I swayed for a moment. It took me a few minutes to decide not to just walk out. Closing argument for a bench trial. I have no idea how to write one. I've never written one, and never seen one. I'm trying to remember my mantra, that pass or fail, this has been a worthwhile experience.
Robert called, and we talked about it. Tim called, and initially tried to give some advice on what I should have done, but I guess is only an expert in writing jury trial instructions, not bench trials. His teacher came in, so he said he'd call later.
Much like my (first) graduation, I wasn't really tired or excited, just kind of empty. I did clean up the dining room and living room, both because it wasn't fair of me to be taking up every available common space with my junk, and because I was sick of seeing the BarBri logo everywhere. I picked up some UV Cake vodka around 9pm - it's not as good as the Pinnacle Cake flavor. MOAR SUGAR. Tim never contacted me, but Kevin from SF/the 09 Atlantis cruise was in town, and texted me just before midnight. He'd been to a couple bars and the like, and is staying at uptown. He came over, had about 1/4 of the drink I made him, and then we rolled around on my bed for a while. I'm glad I finally got to put a checkmark next to his name. I blew & rimmed him on the cruise, and again on my trip to SF in '10, but we never got around to actual fucking. I vaguely recall him having a prohibition on it, but he says its only a prohibition on him bottoming. If you say so.
Got to bed at almost 3, slept HORRIBLY. Had nightmares I thankfully couldn't remember even right after having them, just the feeling on the back of my neck. Woke up a couple more times through the night.
