I broke up with Tim tonight. He had been trolling Craigslist on Saturday, and I didn't want a co-evolutionary path of him getting better and better at covering his tracks. It was a lengthy farewell, and as much as I hated being the one to have to do it, I'm also very proud of myself for it. I think we can be friends.

Wow, this is the second breakup notice on my F-list in 24 hours. Good on you for being adult and responsible about the whole thing--if you guys can be friends without drama, then all power to you.

Maybe the same way summer encourages romances, fall encourages break-ups?
I think a certain amount of drama is unavoidable - cracked.com's article on 6 scientific reasons breakups suck touched on some of it. I also believe the key to minimizing that is 1) to keep in mind that much of what you're feeling about the other person is "stuff I was too blind to see before" but rather "stuff I'm seeing in a different light. An angry, bitter light." and 2) a period of separation so that the worst of it can blow over.
