"Earlier this month, France’s highest court ruled that the 2004 marriage of a homosexual couple is "unlawful." In its decision, the court wrote: "Marriage is not merely the contractual recognition of the love between a couple; it is a framework that imposes rights and duties, and that is designed to provide for the care and harmonious development of the child."

I clearly don't hang out with enough sailors, because words fail me here.....

Of course, silly. Gay people will raise gay children in the same way that straight people can only produce straight children.

How does this make the situation less shocking? Because, honestly, I think it does the opposite.

Ahaha....'Cause by the time this popped up on Squeak's LJ, I'd already seen it posted so many times on my own Friendsview that I'd run out of things to comment.

So if you have children that you are raising is your marriage legal?

Or if you are married (heterosexual) and you have no children ever are you then considered not married?

I'd say something about it being a French court but the French have traditionally been fairly progressive in such things. Though I now recall something about a conservative movement in France though I can't remember if it was a shift in power of simply a shift in societal tendencies.

DOH!

I'd ask what the hell were they thinking but I'm afraid they'd tell me.

I seem to recall something about the rise of conservatism in France, a country typically allied with progressive thought.

Oy!
