Happy National Pie Day Everyone!

thepnutgalleryI'm not as excited about it as I was last year, as evidenced by the fact that I didn't make so much as a single pie crust, much less pie, this year. Aimee has all of that taken care of, and significantly more free time than I do, so I just got the ingredients and let her do the creating. If I lived on my own, I would probably have made or bought a pie or two and left it at that. The walnut cream pie, which made it's debut at last year's Pie Day, and a return appearance as the center of last year's Pake, would have been my most likely choice. It's pretty labor intensive, so it would be the only pie I made, but totally worth it. Anyway, I think that at least part of my disinterest comes from the shrinking of my sweet tooth back to a normal human size that happened during Sandwich Month. Dunno.
On an unrelated note, I'm signed up to give blood tomorrow at 11:15. Having no problem lying for a good cause, I used to with hold my precious, universal donor blood on account of the principle of the ban on man-on-man luvin'. On the one hand, it was punishing people who needed blood for a policy they have nothing to do with. On the other, I always thought (and still think) that if the blood shortage gets bad enough, they'll remove some of their more ridiculous indefinite deferrals. Since discovering that it's not actually the Blood Bank, but the FDA that upholds this ridiculous ban, I've changed my tune. Unfortunately, I've also changed my sexual habits from 100% safe to something less than that (though not much less). While I'm confident that I don't have anything, and well aware that all blood is tested, the Big One is undetectable within the first three months. Also, and an issue unto itself, people keep implying that I am or will soon be a disease-ridden skank, which makes me doubt my confidence. I guess we'll find out what my ultimate decision will be tomorrow. That's about all I got.

If the proposed mentality used at that time (assuming it wasn't mere homophobia) were used today we wouldn't let women who'd had any kind of sex donate as women are currently the fastest growing population of AIDS patients.
I agree, it didn't make much sense then and it definitely doesn't make any sense now.

on an unrelated note: you'd be proud of me! i'm taking jazz I and II. and hopefully ballet I if i can murder a few people first to take their spots in class. i think this means like 20 people...
