Showtime, Synergy.
Jul. 30th, 2016 07:51 pmCall time for the show was 12, which was kind of confusing for me since tech/dress wasn't until 1:30, but whatever. I got dressed, got ready, got my last minute costume things....and realized when I got to the theatre that I'd forgotten my socks for Billie Jean and my shorts for Bad. Well, fuck. Fortunately, Jason happened to wear green shorts and the costume designer put stripes on my regular socks. Apparently, the reason the call time is 12 is because people will be consistently late and actually show up around 1. Dress rehearsal was rough, and not in the least because people had a hard time understanding the concept of a full dress rehearsal. I missed a count in Thriller, and I had no clue what the hell I was doing in Bad. Bad, bad, really really bad.
We broke for dinner - I was just going to go over Bad a million times, but Aaron wanted me to join him and a few other folks at Spike's. I was just planning on having coffee, so it makes no nevermind to me. Happened to run into Dawnielle there, so I moved our group to her section. Might as well give her the money. It was happy hour, but I opted not to drink. Aaron judged the dancers who did. The bill was much higher than I thought it was going to be; Aaron's salad alone was almost $30. Apparently it was $12 for lettuce and $15 to add salmon or whatever fish he got. Remind me to never go to Spike's again. As a thank you, Aaron paid for everyone's. I didn't feel too guilty, since I only had a diet coke, but I did feel like I should have tried to steer us somewhere less expensive. Does the Gaslamp have a McDonald's?
For the final show, they cut the dance in the I Want You Back Medley. It was simple, but/so I hated the choreo, and having a bunch of white guys come out in afros like the Jackson Five is getting to dangerous waters for me. So Billie Jean is now my first number in the show, and I used the extra time to run Bad over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over with anyone who would do it with me. The audience went *nuts* as soon as I walked on stage for Billie Jean, and kept their energy there. We had a huge fuckup during Thriller - Joe, the guy who set the piece, skipped a couple 8 counts in the middle, which threw off the dancers who were watching him, which threw off more people, etc in a horrible chain reaction of mismatched movement. I learned early on that I know it at least as well if not better than anyone in my line of sight, so I wasn't thrown until the end when I stopped to think about if I was off. Story of my life. The whole rest of the show was stellar, and the audience kept up their part. Really an absolutely amazing experience.
I said hi to Tim and Dave and some other folks outside. A couple boys were heading to #1, but Tim had left Pupple at my place, so I went home to say hi to him instead. Figured I'd go out after that, since I still had so much energy, but as soon as he left, I nearly passed out on the couch.
