I'm Accommodating
Feb. 8th, 2013 09:46 amCouldn't walk on my foot when I woke up. Memories of breaking my thumb (and not going to the Dr. for two weeks) came rushing back, and I freaked out. About not being able to work, about not being able to really enjoy Sydney, about everything. My papa is the absolute King of criticizing people in hindsight, and I always hear his voice in my head when I have big decisions to make.
I went to the Dr.'s office on my lunch break. Aaron Wolcotte was filling in for Kelly - adorable. He looked at my toe, said it was proooobably not broken, but ordered some x-rays anyway. I went ahead and got screened for STDs while there. As much as I would've loved to take my pants off for him, I'd come from work, didn't have time to get cleaned up, and I have professional pride about that sort of thing, so I did my own swabs.
Charles & John had invited us over for dinner at 7, but I was very hungry when I got home so I had a little something. Got there before Ashley & her parents and tried to help make stuff. Charles made spaghetti squash, wild rice stuffed peppers (wild rice, Daiya, toasted walnuts), and a kale saute. Ashley's parents had stopped at Babycakes for cupcakes, and she had one for me, too. Funny, I don't remember Babycakes having anything vegan.....that's because they don't. She'd called BC to ask, and when they didn't went to Whole Foods, just so I'd have something. Ashley doesn't like sweets herself, but wanted to make sure I was included. So touching. I couldn't help but remember the Olden Days in Rocky, when people kept bringing cupcakes during dinner scene. They'd get passed around, "Sorry Squeak, not vegan! om nom nom." Until one night Marie brought cupcakes, and there was one with a flag stuck in it that said "Squeak: Vegan Cupcake." Except it wasn't even a vegan cupcake - she'd gone to Jimbo's(?), couldn't find a vegan cupcake, so bought a slice of vegan cake, cut it into a circle, and put it into a cupcake wrapper. SO SWEET!
It started hailing after dinner, Ashley's parents left, we hung out sampling the various infused vodkas. They had lemon, orange, tea...a couple others, I think. Brian had been texting me all day and night about going to Rich's, asked if he could pick us up at 9:30. I told him we were having dinner at 7, so that would probably work. Texted him again at 9 to tell him dinner was going longer than expected, and I'd text him when we were done. He kept texting me asking when that would be. I DON'T KNOW. We didn't end up leaving until after midnight, and Ashley didn't want to pay $10 to hang out for an hour at Rich's. We went to Mo's instead, so she could see Mike. It was fun. Her and John danced and danced. I stood there watching, but had a great time. Offered John a ride home at 2, but he opted for the car service instead.
Back at my place, I was just cleaning up when I heard my doorbell ring.....it was Brian, with some other gent. I made them cocktails, got Brian a plate so the two of them could do coke (none for me, thanks), and successfully resisted the urge to defenestrate the friend when he stopped my music so he could play his. Actually, I even gave his music a chance, but it sucked, so I put mine back on. They left for other adventures, I went to bed.
