I wasn't exactly sick again, but my nasal passages were irritated when I woke up at 5. Grrr. Since it was so early, I wanted to give the air outside more time to warm up before I walked Pupple, and didn't even want to risk him barking if I went to piss, so I just laid there chatting and trying to get games to work on my phone.
When I finally did get up, I took Pupple around the block in my Christmas cape, started some coffee, but opted to just have Chamomile tea instead. It worked, and I was able to sleep, albeit fitfully, for a while longer. Tim had scrubbed the counters and cupboard doors, I cleared off the table and vacuumed, moved Hover to the other side of the room. For being an explorer, he's maybe not so bright. Tim had brought an egg carton for him, I put treats inside it. I figured he'd chew a hole in it to get to them, but he scampered all over it, and even under it, then gave up and napped.
Beth asked if she could come by early, and she sat on the couch while we cleaned. It was awkward, but I'm glad I got to see her. She left before any of the other guests got there, which gave us a chance to get the prep done. Matt, Nick, and Hector were the first to arrive. I gave them wine and kept it full. Daniel arrived next, bearing a plate of (nonvegan) candy cane fudge, and Noel and Jose rounded it out. The food was good, though I found myself not hungry at all. The conversations were even better, with puns and stories and jokes making the rounds. Once dinner was over, I switched from holiday music to regular music, and took suggestions from other folks as well. Someone asked about First Period, which was on top of the DVD stack, and the night became that instead. Of course they loved it.
My night gets fuzzy after that, though I recall drunkenly tearing pieces off the turkey to give to Pupple like Delphine LaLaurie preparing her haunted house. I think it's interesting that we originally had 7 definites with 5 maybes, and literally none of them came. Nick, Daniel, et al RSVP'd the day before, and Jose asked to join us that very night.
