I Am Difficult to Dance With
Jun. 11th, 2010 12:54 pmGot up and headed down to school for my career counseling. My attorney-friend from PS is having disturbingly slow business, so I wanted to find out how to find more for him. I also ended up talking about my more specific goals, but the main point was finding business. Nothing I didn't know - networking, being involved in Bar Associations, etc. I can't really do anything for him without his business card, or maybe a web site or something.
Went out with Christina Sosa, Barakat, Sarah Gunderson, and Carly Ross (friends from law school). They're all, especially Christina, doing big things, and I'm just getting through school. I'll hopefully get a job/internship in the fall, and then I, too, can feel like I'm doing more than taking up space. Lunch was good, if over-priced. Some Persian restaurant downtown, and I opted for the Shirazi (cucumber + tomatoes in vinegar) for a total of $7, including tax & tip. It was okay, though I'm hoping I can move us up towards Loving Hut or Evolution in the future. Came home to roommate doing laundry and organizing, did the dishes and meant to only sleep for 30 min, but slept for 2 hours, went grocery shopping while Robert waited. Justin also joined us, Robert went to pick up Steve, and Eric, Justin and I picked up Timmy and headed over to Top of the Park. Everyone was amazed to hear I wasn't drinking, and kept offering to buy me a drink. Ran into Marc & Mikey, and Marc continued his iphone v. Droid banter with Timmy, which was maybe a little more biting to my sober ears than I guess either of them found it. We kept losing people, and running into other people when we went to look for them. For a brief time, Steve and I were alone on the side of the building, and talked about some boy he'd been dating. Actually, for much of the night, he and I stayed together. We went to Mo's eventually, having lost Robert to the crowd, and stood around somewhat awkwardly until Eric Barth got a table. Some ate, some drank, and we were cutting it close to get into Rich's, so Steve and I walked, talking about sex with friends, etc. Everyone made it in for free, thanks to Tim & Eric finding rockstar parking, and Justin, despite getting there late, promising to drink a lot and make out with lots of boys. Kept losing people inside again, but I concerned myself a little less with that. I did make especial attempts to keep track of Justin and Steve, and Steve attempted to dance with me unsuccessfully. He noted that my hips and my shoulders move to two different beats. I'm okay with that. Saw Chad, Justin, Angel et al, all very clearly on some letter of the alphabet, but all very friendly and happy to see me. I also saw Brian, and what we did could be called dancing, but would have been called fucking if we'd been sans clothing.
The music got kind of good around 12-12:30, but he kept building up momentum and then stopping. I danced, though not as much as usual, and ended up outside chatting with Brandon (Sean, yes that Sean's ex), Steve, Justin, and two cute Russian gents named Alex. Traded contact info with the Alex's, then took Steve and Justin back for Wii and TJ's cucumber wontons. Steve tapped out, and I drove him home (yay staying sober!), and he invited me to see his apartment sometime...I've already, if briefly and platonically, seen his apartment, so I'm imagining that this is for a more hourly and extended stay. Justin drank and played Playstation until around 6, then he went home and I crashed. I stayed sober for the whole night, though I was briefly a little loopy when I took my meds. The first time I noticed it a couple weeks ago, it knocked me on my ass, and I missed classes. I think it's fading, which I'm grateful for.
I like getting picked up in person - it's novel and fun. It's just also much harder to plan for than an online hook-up.
