Monday - Woke up early, on account of having drank the night before, and saw a text on my phone from neighbor Steve - he'd apparently watched us through the window. Hot stuff. Hot enough, or maybe it had just been long enough, that I was randy again. Ken was having none of it, though, and just wanted to sleep. Ah, well. Found a spot, went into class. Had kind of a hard time concentrating during the first class, and a surprisingly easy time concentrating and participating in legal skills. There wasn't anything going on for lunch, so I just went to the library, where I had my westlaw training. They're always put together much better than the Lexis ones, but I couldn't remember my password to log in, so I played on the interweb, and just tried to pay some attention.
Criminal was probably the high point of the day. For a long time, infidelity was considered adequate justification for voluntary manslaughter. This has largely come down, to the point where it's no longer a sure thing, but it's still happens. There was a case a while back - some very wealthy, powerful lady found herself a husband, then basically put her life aside to raise him up to her stature. She put him through law school, got him a job, had kids and didn't left her job to take care of them. Once he'd set himself up, he left her for his 26 year old intern, got custody of the kids, and kicked her in the shin. She went batso. She actually did drive her car physically into the front of his house, threw fecal matter at it, etc. Eventually, she killed both him and the mistress. Anyway, in talking about this, at the very end of it, Yeager mentioned something about the lack of crime on the part of the gentleman. Ken has often brought up his lack of intentional harm in the things he's done to me. I brought that up to Yeager, just with regards to infidelity, and leaving the spread of STDs out of it. Unfortunately, he thought I was a "rascal", and trying to acquit myself. Even given that, though, he ripped that excuse to shreds. My favorite was the lengthy discussion of the sheer lack of love involved, and how the perpetrator would probably need to spend the rest of the relationship proving it. My other favorite, and one I'm really disappointed I didn't come to myself, was the simple, legal definition of malice. In a legal sense, malice has nothing to do with willful infliction of harm, and everything to do with reckless disregard. Knowing that people have been taken to court for intentionally spreading HIV, you bet yer sweet bippy they could (likely) be in for recklessly, even if technically unknowningly, doing the same. I'll need to read up on it, but it's good to know the law is on my side.
Ken had sent a text while I was in CivPro tutoring, saying he was at Flick's, having a drink....I immediately got very nervous, since I've only known him once to go out drinking in the afternoon, and NEVER alone. I stopped at Ralphs for crackers, and walked over to Flick's while I was there. He was already home - had gone to lunch with Nelson and Justin, and the three of them had stopped for a drink. I was still randy, and went so far, while he was sitting on the couch, to mention that I was going to jerk off before leaving. He didn't hear, or didn't respond, and I didn't end up jerking off, hoping to maybe get some when I got back from banquet. Showered, got dressed, and headed over to CDC.
Banquet went well. I ate a little too much, and didn't manage to get almost any of it up, but the awards were fun. Nicole was druuuunk, and unusually, physically, friendly. Weird. I couldn't help but laugh in my head. 5 years ago, when she won Janet over Marie, she thought it was ridiculous that Marie would make such a scene, and need comforting, and cry, etc. As soon as she didn't get her part, the waterworks started. Anyway, I took home the lasagna and the sausages, for Wednesday, and got home to an awake and cranky Ken. He had waited up for me, which I think is sweet, but I would never ever ever ever ask for. The fact that he points out that he waited up for me, and complains about how late I am only solidifies that.
